On June 5, 2025, President Trump proclaimed a new travel ban, blocking entry to the United States for people from 12 countries, including Afghanistan, Eritrea, Myanmar, Somalia, and Sudan. Individuals from seven other nations — including Laos and Venezuela — now face partial restrictions.

More than 100,000 immigrants from the list of travel-ban–affected countries currently live in Minnesota.

So what do the new bans mean for prospective visitors and their families in the U.S.?
