Upstate Niagara Cooperative (UNC Dairy) announced Thursday that its Rochester manufacturing facility will be closing.

UNC Dairy says the closure is expected to be in the fourth quarter of 2025 and approximately 98 employees will be affected.

The dairy cooperative says the decision was driven by “evolving market trends,” including a declining demand for fresh fluid milk.

UNC Dairy says it is offering expedited consideration for open internal positions for employees impacted by the closure.

“UNC Dairy recognizes its long-standing presence in the Rochester community and deeply appreciates the contributions of its employees and the support of the community,” Upstate Niagara Cooperative CEO Kevin Ellis said in a statement. “This was not a decision we took lightly. We are fully focused on supporting our Rochester associates through this transition while reinforcing our strong presence and operations right here in Buffalo.”

Rochester plant production will be absorbed by other company dairy plants, the company said. Plans for an expansion project in West Seneca, which would expand Greek yogurt and cottage cheese production, will move forward.
