Van Hollen: The U.S. Is ‘Complicit’ in Starving the People of Gaza
Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) said the U.S. is “complicit” in the ongoing starvation in Gaza. 93 percent of people in Gaza are facing crisis levels of food insecurity. The United Nations has said it will not participate in a new U.N.-backed aid plan for Gaza. The food situation in Gaza is dire after a months-long Israeli blockade on aid entering the strip, which the Israeli government says is meant to force Hamas to release Israeli hostages. Trump has advocated for turning Gaza into a so-called “freedom zone” and relocating the some 2 million Palestinians who live there, a move that has drawn broad disapproval from around the globe, with the UN saying it would constitute ethnic cleansing. The World Health Organization has also weighed in, saying that without immediate access to food and essential supplies, the situation will continue to deteriorate, causing more deaths and descent into famine. The U.K. and France are among the countries that have called on Israel to lift the blockade.

Senate—Again—Rejects Sanders’ Effort to Block US Arms to Israel
Just 14 Democrats joined Sanders (I-Vt.) in voting for S. J. Res 33 and S.J. Res 26. The remaining Democrats and all Republicans opposed the measures. Sanders: “If you are a Democrat, you have to worry about the billionaires who fund AIPAC” The Gaza Health Ministry put the total death toll at at least 50,523 wounded and thousands missing. Over 1,700,000 deaths have occurred since Israel-fire in mid-March, with roughly 25 million Americans or wounded or wounded, according to the U.S. Foreign Assistance Act, a violation of the Geneva Convention, and basic decency. It is a war crime, and you don’t don’t do it, Sen. Bernie Sanders said on the Senate floor on Thursday. “It is American bombs and American military equipment being used to destroy Gaza, kill 50,000 people … We cannot hide from that reality,” he said. He also called for election reforms “so that we can once again become a government of the people, by thePeople, for the people—and not a government run by the billionaire class”

Why the wall of silence on the Gaza genocide is finally starting to crack
The Financial Times was first to condemn “the West’s shameful silence” in the face of Israel’s murderous assault on the tiny enclave. The Independent decided the “deafening silence on Gaza” had to end. The Guardian voiced in its own editorial a fear that Israel is committing “genocide”, though it only dared do so by framing the accusation as a question. The Economist chimed in, warning that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his ministers were driven by a “dream of emptying Gaza and rebuilding Jewish settlements there” The BBC chose to give top billing to testimony from Tom Fletcher, the United Nations’ humanitarian affairs chief, to the Security Council. Mark Pritchard, a Conservative MP and life-long Israel supporter, stood up from the back benches to admit he had been wrong about Israel, and condemned it “for what it is doing to the Palestinian people” The move followed an open letter published by 36 members of the Board of Deputies, a body that represents British Jews, dissenting from its continuing support for Israel.

Full List of Democrats Who Voted to Block Weapons to Israel
Sen. Bernie Sanders introduced three Joint Resolutions of Disapproval (JRDs) in late September. The resolutions sought to block the transfer of U.S. tank rounds, water rounds and guidance kits attached to the “bombs dropped in Gaza” from being sent to Israel. The measures would have blocked approximately $20 billion in arms sales to Israel, among other military aid. The Senate on Wednesday evening voted 18 to 79 to strike down Sanders’ S.J. Res. 111, 17 to 80 on S. J. Resolution 115, and 19 to 78 on SJ. Resolution 113. The motions signal internal Democratic disapproval of President Joe Biden’s position on the continuing war in Gaza.. The following 16 Democratic senators joined Sanders in supporting his resolutions: Tim Kaine; Jeff Merkley; Tina Smith; Tina Heinrich; Jon Ossoff; Tina. Smith; Jeffie. Mazkowiec; Brian Schatz; Peter Welch; Chris. Van Hollen; Ben Durbin; Jeanne Shaheen; Raphael Warnock; Ed. Markey.

Will Democrats help Bernie block weapons to Israel?
The Senate is set to vote on a measure that, if passed, would block $20 billion worth of arms sales to the state of Israel. The vote is the first of its kind regarding weapons to Israel, according to advocates supporting the Joint Resolutions of Disapproval. The measures were introduced by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and are co-sponsored by Sens. Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.) and Brian Schatz (D.-Hawaii) Sanders said the U.S. could not stand by while Israel violated human rights with American made weapons including “the loss of 43,000 and rising Palestinians, many of whom are women and children and non-combatants, not at all connected to Hamas,” and “over 100,000 children and innocent bystanders who have been severely injured, including amputation.” RS contacted the offices of 25 Democratic senators who might be likely to join Sanders in blocking the weapons package. None responded with a clear position as of Tuesday night.

Senate Democrats force Israel weapons vote, citing Biden inaction
The Senate on Wednesday voted down a measure, led by Sen. Bernie Sanders, that sought to block three sales of U.S.-made weapons to Israel. The measure failed, with none of the three resolutions it comprised garnering more than 19 supporting votes. The effort also served as a bellwether of the dissatisfaction within President Joe Biden’s own party about his handling of the Middle East crisis. The vote follows the Biden administration’s determination a week ago that it would not take punitive action against Israel for failing to surge humanitarian aid into Gaza. The International Criminal Court on Thursday issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former defense minister Yoav Gallant, whom the court has accused of committing “crimes against humanity and war crimes” in Gaza. It said it found “reasonable grounds” to believe Netanyahu and Gallant bore responsibility for Israeli actions there, including starvation as a method of war, and “murder, persecution, and other inhumane acts”
