According to the reports, MLA Rajiv Singh got a back seat in the train, while his wife and son’s seats were in the front of the coach. Another passenger was sitting nearby, who allegedly refused to change seat. After this, the situation worsened when some people, allegedly associated with the MLA, boarded the train at Jhansi station and started beating the passenger, who was going to Bhopal.

A video of this incident is going viral on social media, in which about six people are seen continuously punching the passenger. Some people are also seen beating him with slippers. In the video, the passenger’s nose is seen bleeding, and his clothes are stained with blood.

Railway’s Jhansi zone superintendent of police, Vipul Kumar Srivastava, confirmed that the altercation was over changing seats. He said necessary action will be taken based on the CCTV footage.
Government Railway Police (GRP), Jhansi, said they have received a complaint from MLA Rajeev Singh, based on which a non-cognizable report (NCR) has been filed. According to a PTI report, in his complaint, the MLA alleged that a co-passenger misbehaved with him and his family during the journey. When this was protested, the man allegedly brought some more people to Jhansi station, who also behaved inappropriately.

The outrageous incident happened on Thursday inside the Delhi-Bhopal Vande Bharat, where BJP leader Rajeev Singh, the legislator from Uttar Pradesh’s Jhansi, was travelling.
According to the report, Singh was travelling with his family but was allotted a seat in the back of the compartment while his family members got seats in the front. The passenger who attacked was sitting next to them, and he was approached to switch seats, but he refused.
This caused an escalation of the situation, and some men related to the MLA boarded the train at Jhansi station and thrashed the passenger. A video of the incident went viral on social media, in which the passenger could be seen being punched by the MLA goons while he was sitting in his seat. Some used slippers to thrash the passenger as well.
The video also shows the passenger ending up with a bleeding nose and his clothes soaking in blood.
NDTV reports that Railway Superintendent of Police (Jhansi) Vipul Kumar Srivastava has confirmed that the altercation occurred over changing seats. The official told reporters that appropriate action would be taken based on CCTV footage.

BJP has not commented on the incident yet.
Another clip going viral on social media showed blood stains on the passenger’s T-shirt as he wiped his nose seating on the train.
Hindustan Times couldn’t independently verify the authenticity of the clips.
The incident took place last week on Thursday, and according to a PTI report, apart from switching seats, the scuffle also stemmed from objectionable sitting posture inside the train.
A non-cognizable report (NCR) has been lodged by Rajeev Singh in connection with the incident, in which he has alleged that the passenger had behaved in an indecent manner and when objected to, also misbehaved with the MLA’s family.
Rajeev Singh said he was travelling with his wife and son. The co-passenger called others when the train reached the Jhansi station, who also behaved abusively, Rajeev Singh alleged.
As of Friday, no complaint was received by the passenger who was assaulted, and police will only proceed with further action once a formal complaint is made by the second party.
