The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Delhi, predicting thunderstorms along with lightning for the next two days.

Visuals from news agencies showed Kanhaiya Nagar, among other parts of the Capital, drenched during the rains on Friday.

IMD issues orange alert for 13 states Earlier in the day, Delhi had experienced a sudden change in weather, with the IMD predicting spells of rain for the afternoon.

The weather observatory issued an orange alert for a total of 13 states, including Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Goa, Karnataka, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland, Meghalaya and Tripura.

The weather agency also predicted “heavy rainfall” in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan and Punjab till July 9. Meanwhile, in Haryana and Uttar Pradesh wet spells are likely between July 5 and 9; and in Jammu region between July 5 and 8.

Delhi artificial rain In a first for the national capital, Delhi is set to witness artificial rain before July 11.

As per PTI, the flight plan for the cloud seeding operation has been submitted by IIT Kanpur to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Pune for technical coordination and is set to be implemented between July 4 and 11, PTI reported.
