With only a few days until camp begins, Camp Gan Yisroel Montreal kicked off the summer with an impactful full-day staff training event designed to prepare counselors for a safe, professional, and Chasidishe summer experience.

The day began with all staff davening Shacharis together. This was followed by a dynamic seminar led by Rabbi Levi Feldman titled “What Great Staff Members Do Differently.” Rabbi Feldman’s session emphasized proactive camper safety, fostering positive relationships, and handling challenging situations with professionalism and care. His powerful and practical insights left a lasting impression on staff members as they prepare for their Shlichus in camp.

Afterward, staff were treated to a brunch, giving them time to recharge and connect with each other in a warm, upbeat atmosphere.

The program continued with an in-depth emergency response training by Rubi Herman, founder of Medequip, who provided crucial hands-on instruction covering how to respond to allergic reactions, choking, neck and back injuries, seizures, bleeding, fainting, and more. The session equipped staff with the tools and confidence to respond swiftly and responsibly in any medical situation.

The day concluded with each division gathering with their respective head staff to review plans, goals, and visions for what promises to be an extraordinary summer filled with growth, chayus, and Chassidishe pride.

As always, Camp Gan Yisroel Montreal is ensuring that every camper is in safe, capable hands, in a Chassidishe environment, and that every moment in camp is maximized with purpose and positivity.

As a bochur, Reb Nosson Gurary felt that he was lacking in true hiskashrus to the Rebbe. When he brought it up in yechidus, the Rebbe advised him on how to achieve “the best hiskashrus, the truest hiskashrus, and the happiest hiskashrus.”

A bochur from Eretz Yisroel, studying at 770 Yeshiva in 5727, asked the Rebbe in yechidus what he should do to fix his “coldness in my hiskashrus and Torah and Mitzvos in general.”

“Immerse yourself in Torah,” the Rebbe responded, “in any Torah area of your preference. Inevitably, your coldness to Torah and mitzvos will be nullified, and you will be mekushar.”

Reb Nosson Gurary relates:

When I was a bochur, I always felt that I was lacking in hiskashrus. Once, at a yechidus, I asked the Rebbe how to become mekushar to him.

The Rebbe responded:

The best hiskashrus, and the truest hiskashrus, and the happiest hiskashrus, is by becoming a lamdan amiti (true lamdan) in nigleh and a lamdan amiti in pnimiyus hatorah.

Ohel Renovations Carried Out Under Rabbinic Guidance

Rabbi Yosef Braun of the Crown Heights Beis Din released a letter clarifying that the renovations were done under the supervision of rabbonim and talmidei chachomim. These changes are being made to significantly reduce wait times for the tens of thousands of Chassidim expected to arrive from around the world for Gimmel Tammuz. The changes will actually improve and ease access for kohanim, Rabbi Braun said. He also emphasized the importance of kohani being particularly careful with the halachos of tumah.

Following major renovations at the Ohel earlier this week, many have raised concerns about how the changes affect kohanim. In response, Rabbi Yosef Braun classified that the work was done under rabbinic supervision and how it will improve access for kohanim.

By Anash.org reporter

In response to many inquiries about the dramatic changes at the Ohel and the impact on kohanim, Rabbi Yosef Braun of the Crown Heights Beis Din released a letter clarifying that the renovations were done under the supervision of rabbonim and talmidei chachomim, and provided everything remains as planned and no changes are made, the new arrangement will actually improve and ease access for kohanim.

As reported on Anash.org, major changes are being implemented that will dramatically reshape the physical structure of the Ohel, including the addition of a new door carved directly into the stone of the Ohel’s “candle room,” as well as a new entrance for women from behind the reception desk in the tent. These changes are being made to significantly reduce wait times for the tens of thousands of Chassidim expected to arrive from around the world for Gimmel Tammuz, and to provide more comfortable access for all.

Rabbi Braun emphasized the importance of kohanim being particularly careful with the halachos of tumah— especially during these days. In particular:

When exiting the cemetery, kohanim should walk in the center of the path, maintaining at least four tefachim (handbreadths) of distance from graves on either side. Inside the Ohel structure, a kohen should not place his hand over the fence. A pan should be given to someone else to place inside. Minor kohanim should not be brought into areas prohibited to kohanim. Care must be taken not to seat them on fences or allow them to extend their hands or bodies over graves. A special path has been arranged for women. A pregnant eishes kohen (wife of a kohen) may use this path, but should be careful not to extend her hand over the partition near the graves. No one – even those who are not kohanim – should enter the Ohel with an umbrella, as this may cause a halachic issue for kohanim. Those standing under the covered area should also avoid leaning or extending their hands past the partition.

Rabbi Braun also thanked Rabbi Abba Refson for his tireless efforts on behalf of the kohanim (and for all that he does throughout the year to maintain the Ohel), Rabbi Mendel Weisfish for his halachic assistance, and Rabbi Mendel Rotenberg for being on-site to ensure everything is done according to halacha.
