Off-duty Jacksonville sheriff’s officer opens fire on truck after I-95 incident
Lt. Marc Crawford was not in uniform when his unmarked patrol vehicle and a semi-truck made contact possibly more than one time in heavy traffic. Crawford got out and shot four times at the truck near Emerson Street. The rounds hit the front side of the truck where the engine is, but the 70-year-old driver was not injured. The truck driver’s name was not released, but Parker said he had left Charlotte about 9 a.m. and was headed toward Cape Coral. He gave investigators consent to access his truck’s camera to examine the footage once it can be downloaded. So far this year there’s been one police shooting in Jacksonville where a person has been shot.
Chief Alan Parker said Lt. Marc Crawford was not in uniform when his unmarked patrol vehicle and a semi-truck made contact possibly more than one time about 4 p.m. in heavy traffic. Parker said he didn’t know if words were exchanged, but the lieutenant got out and shot four times at the truck near Emerson Street.
“At this point it appears the only person that shot was the officer,” Parker said.

The rounds hit the front side of the truck where the engine is, but the 70-year-old driver was not injured. He was cooperating and not charged because investigators were still trying to figure out what happened.
“The other guy’s being cooperative, but he kind of doesn’t remember a lot of what happened is what he’s telling us,” the chief said.
Parker said since the lieutenant was off-duty in plain clothes, he did not have a body-worn camera. He also hadn’t been interviewed yet because he was at the hospital being treated for a shoulder injury. He is a 21-year veteran and this was his fourth police shooting.
Interstate 95 South is blocked at near Philips Highway for what the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is calling an officer-involved incident March 10, 2025.
The truck driver’s name was not released, but Parker said he had left Charlotte about 9 a.m. and was headed toward Cape Coral. He gave investigators consent to access his truck’s camera to examine the footage once it can be downloaded.

Parker said multiple 911 calls came in, and they are seeking any other information or video witnesses may have. They can contact the Sheriff’s Office at (904) 630-0500.
So far this year there’s been one police shooting in Jacksonville where a person has been shot. On Feb. 11 some officers went back to an area to search for a suspect who had evaded them several days prior. After spotting him, they followed his vehicle to Gossett Street, the Sheriff’s Office previously said.
Michael Aaron Youmans, 29, backed into a driveway where Sgt. Ben McEwan made contact with him. But he refused to show his hands and instead started accelerating toward the sergeant, according to the Sheriff’s Office. The sergeant fired multiple times hitting him in the face and shoulder, but he survived and was absentee-booked while being treated at the hospital.
Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Ben McEwan’s body-worn camera captured this image of Michael Youmans refusing commands and instead driving toward him on Gossett Street and being shot Feb. 11. McEwan’s shadow with the raised gun is viewable on his patrol car to the rear right.
The Sheriff’s Office didn’t have its first shooting of a suspect last year until March 30, Times-Union records show. The year ended with eight police shootings, three of which were fatal.
