Watching for more storm chances Monday!
A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect for Roberts County in northeast SD and Traverse and Douglas counties in west-central MN until 12 AM. This comes as isolated severe thunderstorms may produce hail as large as golf balls and winds up to 70 mph. Make sure to have a severe weather plan in place if heading into northeast SD or central MN tonight. By Monday morning, skies will be partly cloudy, with no rain. The only issue is that dense fog will lower visibility in parts of the Red River Valley. By Tuesday, any leftover moisture should be out of our region, so aside from an isolated shower, we’re looking at a partly sunny sky. Highs will still remain seasonably cool, in the upper 70s to low 80s.
OVERNIGHT – MONDAY: Severe thunderstorms rolled through the southernmost counties of our region Sunday evening, but after midnight, the storms should move south and east of Lakes Country, giving our region a break from the storms. As a result, by Monday morning, skies will be partly cloudy, with no rain. The only issue is that dense fog will lower visibility in parts of the Red River Valley. Morning lows will be in the mid-60s, above average for this time of year. Overall, we’re looking at a partly fog, but otherwise warm and quiet, morning.
During the afternoon and evening hours, scattered showers and isolated rumbles of thunder will roll through northeast ND and northwest MN. Meanwhile, areas south of I-94 will see isolated thunderstorms during the afternoon to late evening hours. Some isolated storms may produce quarter-sized hail and winds up to 60 mph, and the threat lasts until around midnight in some spots. As a result, a Level 1 (Marginal) risk covers southeast ND and Lakes Country, while a Level 2 (Slight) risk covers northeast SD. Make sure to have the VNL Weather App and a severe weather plan on standby if you’re traveling south for Monday.
Aside from the storm threat, skies will be partly cloudy, and afternoon highs will be in the low-80s, around average for this time of year. Because of the humidity, the southern areas of our region may feel like the mid-to-upper-80s, so make sure to stay cool and hydrated. Overall, expect a warm, partly cloudy stay, with isolated storm chances.
TUESDAY – FRIDAY: By Tuesday, any leftover moisture should be out of our region, so aside from an isolated shower, we’re looking at a partly sunny sky. A high-pressure system from Canada will bring dry, stable air into our region after Tuesday, which means the rest of the workweek will be dry and partly sunny. Morning lows will be in the mid-50s and afternoon highs will be in the upper-70s, a few degrees below average for late July. Overall, the last few days of July will be perfect for going outside. Go enjoy the nice weather.
UPCOMING WEEKEND: Conditions look to remain relatively quiet for next weekend, although we will see an uptick in shower chances towards the second half of the weekend. Highs will still remain seasonably cool, in the upper 70s to low 80s.
