Martha Stewart spoke candidly about Meghan Markle’s career as a lifestyle influencer in a new interview with Yahoo Lifestyle.

“I hope she knows what she’s talking about,” Stewart said of the Duchess of Sussex.

Markle recently launched her home goods brand As Ever, as well as her Netflix series With Love, Meghan.

Martha Stewart doesn’t beat around the bush, especially when it comes to her competition. On Sunday, the entrepreneur spoke to Yahoo Lifestyle about her thoughts on Meghan Markle’s latest business ventures.

The Duchess of Sussex has taken after Stewart as a lifestyle influencer: before she married into the royal family, she ran her own blog The Tig, and more recently, she launched her home goods brand As Ever, as well as her Netflix cooking, gardening, and hosting show With Love, Meghan.

“Meghan, I don’t really know very well, and I hope she knows what she’s talking about,” Stewart said. “Authenticity, to me, is everything, and to be authentic and knowledgeable about your subject matter is extremely important.”

Stewart cited Gwyneth Paltrow as a prime example of a celebrity who successfully entered the lifestyle space.

“Gwyneth has been very successful; she created quite an interesting body of businesses,” Stewart explained. “She’s admired. She won an Oscar for heaven’s sake as an actress! She’s pretty powerful.”

Stewart concluded the interview with some simple words of advice to those who wish to follow in her footsteps: “I don’t mind. Good luck.”

The latest restock of Markle’s As Ever product range sold out within minutes. The Duchess of Sussex first released her own line of jams, honeys, teas, baking mixes—and even flower sprinkles—in April.
