Wheeling streets submerged again; debris and mud force road closures Thursday night
Flood waters closed several roads in Ohio County on Thursday night. This came just 12 days after the fatal floods that swept through Ohio County and took the lives of 9 people. In Belmont County, EMA Director Dave Ivan reported some minor street flooding in Bridgeport and a few other areas.
As of 10 p.m., the Wheeling Police Department reported the closure of multiple roadways including National Road in Woodsdale, Elm Street, 29th Street and East Bethlehem Boulevard in Elm Grove-Bethlehem and areas of Elm Terrace. This is due to debris and mud left from the flooding.
Wheeling P.D. did also report that water has receded on most roadways.
In Belmont County, EMA Director Dave Ivan reported to News9 that the county had some minor street flooding in Bridgeport and a few other areas. He added that the water built up over the road in some spots due to culverts being plugged.
In addition to the flooding on Thursday evening, Ohio County EMA Director Lou Vargo confirmed to News9 that the first responders were called to two separate fires, including one on Wheeling Island and a second in Bethlehem.
