The full strawberry moon will appear on the night of June 10 and into the early morning hours of June 11, reaching peak illumination at 12:44 a.m. on June 11.
Why is June’s full moon called the strawberry moon?
According to the Old Farmer’s Almanac, June’s low-rising strawberry moon got its name from Native American tribes who would use the spring full moon to represent the time of year when wild strawberries were ready to pick and gather.

On June 10, there will be a 1-36% chance of cloud cover throughout the Willamette Valley and southern Oregon, according to the National Weather Service. Parts of eastern Oregon will see up to a 57% chance of cloud cover, and the Oregon Coast will be between 7-77%.
Why will the June 2025 full strawberry moon be so low?
The strawberry moon will be the lowest it’s been since 2006.
The reason the moon will appear so low is because of how it is currently orbiting. The inclination of the moon’s orbit travels through an 18.6-year cycle, and then culminates in a “Major Lunar Standstill,” according to EarthSky.
A “Major Lunar Standstill” happened in January, and so the already low-rising strawberry moon is still seeing the effects.

The strawberry moon’s name doesn’t come from its color, but rather its appearance originally occurring around the time of the summer strawberry harvest.
2025’s strawberry moon is special because it will appear during a major lunar standstill, an event that only takes place between every 18 and 19 years in which the moon appears lower in the sky.
According to BGR, skywatchers will be in for another treat because Antares, a bright red star, will also be visible near the full moon.
