July’s full moon, known as the Buck Moon, will be upon us this week.

On July 10, July’s full moon will be at its peak at 4:37 p.m. ET, according to the Old Farmer’s Almanac. It will be below the horizon when it reaches its peak, but backyard astronomers can face southeast to watch the moon rise just after sunset.

The full moon will be visible from July 9 to July 10, according to NASA.

Since the moon will be at its peak in the afternoon, while the moon is below the horizon, it won’t be visible until the sun sets in your local time zone, according to Space.com.

However, the moon will be full from July 9 to July 10, according to NASA.

Will it be cloudy on July 9?

On Wednesday, July 9, parts of the East Coast are forecast to have cloudy skies, while the majority of the country is forecast to have clear skies, according to the National Weather Service.

It is forecasted to be cloudier on July 10, the day the full moon reaches its peak.

Why is it called the Buck Moon?

Like other colloquial names for moon phases and astrological events, the “Buck Moon” is named after a significant natural phenomenon that happens around the time it appears full in the sky. The term likely originated with local native American tribes, according to the Farmers’ Almanac.

July’s full moon coincides with the time during which the antlers of male deer, known as bucks, are growing after their annual shed. While they begin sprouting in spring, they are at the peak of the process during this time, growing as fast as one-fourth of an inch per day, or one-and-a-half inches per week during this period.
