Memorial Day has become the unofficial beginning of summer and a good reason for celebrating with a traditional favorite – barbecue.

Augusta has many barbecue restaurants to choose from, and with Memorial Day around the corner, which is also the official start to National BBQ Week, it’s important to find the best one.

To celebrate Memorial Day and BBQ Week, here is a listing of Yelp’s Top 10 barbecue restaurants in the Augusta area based on number of reviews and the highest average scores.

BBQ Barn

10298 Atomic Road, North Augusta

“BBQ Barn is the right stuff. They’ve got pulled pork with quality sauces, hash similar to what I make myself (therefore excellent), delicious southern sides, sweet (and unsweet) tea, various other meats (their burnt ends are yum!) and some desserts that look great but I haven’t tried yet,” noted a Yelp review. “They also aren’t a buffet style restaurant which is a great thing in my opinion. ”

Jim ‘N Nick’s Bar-B-Q

275 Robert C. Daniel Jr. Pkwy., Augusta

“Walking in feels like Texas, smells like good BBQ,” said a Yelp reviewer. “I got the brisket topped mac and cheese, this was super good. Not a lot of fatty pieces which I appreciated! Service was great, they were all very sweet and helpful!”

Willie Jewell’s Old School Bar-B-Q

3512 River Watch Pkwy., Martinez

“The amount of food and how good each dish was, I was impressed! From the ribs to the brisket to the pulled pork, you cannot go wrong,” noted a review. “Also the price for the 3 meat combo was less than $25, these prices are crazy cheap for the quality and amount of food you get!”

Goolsby’s

4460 Washington Road, Evans

“Goolsbys is amazing,” exclaimed a Yelp review. “We go all of the time. The food is excellent and their BBQ sauce is yummy. Great soul cooking when you are in the mood in Evans. Must try! Their staff is also super friendly. I like to get mine to go but it is nice enough for when you want to stay and eat a while. It’s a true when you’re here your family type place.”

Hawaiian Style BBQ

2801 Washington Road, Augusta

“Food is always amazing,” said a Yelp review. “Thomas and his wife do a terrific job of making everyone feel at home and cared for. Every time I have to go to the area on business I make it a point to stop here. Highly recommended.”

Fielding Bros BBQ

855 Laney Walker Blvd., Augusta

“Seriously folks, if you’re wanting the best chopped pork & hash the area has to offer, this place is it,” noted a Yelp review. “The meat is unbelievably juicy, perfectly smoked and basted ever so righteously in ACV. Their sides are pretty standard, mine being potato salad & mac and cheese. The mango lemonade is truly outstanding.”

Jackie M’s & Son

3308 Milledgeville Road, Augusta

“This place is so good. A tiny little hole in the wall but the flavor that comes out of that kitchen will keep you going back for more,” noted Yelp. “The beef patties are so good, the fries were piping hot with the perfect amount of seasoning. The sole rolls were so good. These people put so much care into their food and you can tell they love what they do.”

Knuckle Sandwiches

1149 Broad St., Augusta

“This is hands-down one of the best barbecue sandwiches I’ve ever had,” according to a Yelp review. “I’ve eaten a lot of barbecue restaurants, and between the sauce, the fries and the food all I can think about is this one specific barbecue sandwich contemplating on shifting my entire trip around for one more not to mention the service was incredible.”

Sconyers Bar-B-Que

2250 Sconyers Way, Augusta

“Delicious food. Has great cornbread, lots of sauce and plenty of sweet tea,” noted a Yelp review. “Love coming here with family (and) friends or (to) get together.”

Shane’s Rib Shack

4446 Washington Road, Evans

“Head and shoulders above anyone around and by-far the best ribs in the Augusta area,” according to Yelp. “It should be illegal how good they are because it makes you want to continue to eat more.”
