C Sadanandan Master from Kerala who survived a horrific political attack in 1994, has been nominated to the Rajya Sabha by the President of India

Thrissur: President Droupadi Murmu has nominated four individuals to the Rajya Sabha under Article 80(1)(a) of the Indian Constitution. One of them is C Sadanandan Master, a teacher from Kerala who is also known for surviving a politically motivated attack in the 1990s.

Who is C Sadanandan Master?

C Sadanandan Master is a high school teacher from Thrissur district, Kerala, with a long career in education. He has taught social science at Sree Durga Vilasam Higher Secondary School in Peramangalam since 1999. He holds a B.Com degree from Gauhati University and a B.Ed from Calicut University. In addition to teaching, he is vice-president of the National Teachers Union in Kerala and the editor of its publication, Deshiya Adhyapaka Vartha.

What happened to him in 1994?

On January 25, 1994, Sadanandan was attacked near his residence in Kannur, a district known for frequent political clashes. In the incident, both of his legs were amputated. The attack was allegedly carried out by members of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] and was reportedly linked to his political shift away from the Left. At the time, he was 30 years old.

Following the incident, he continued to remain active in public and political life.

Why was he nominated to the Rajya Sabha?
