Why did Radhika Yadav’s father kill her? Not Instagram reels; he had asked her to stop…but she refused
Former tennis player Radhika Yadav was shot dead by her father in Gurugram. Police are yet to establish a motive behind the murder. The father confessed to killing his daughter with his licensed .32 bore revolver. She was reportedly in the kitchen at the time when three out of the five bullets struck her. She had played 36 singles and 7 doubles matches before taking up coaching. Her last international appearance was in March 2024 after she took up the role in an academy.
Even though the father confessed to killing his daughter with his licensed .32 bore revolver, the reason behind the murder is yet to be confirmed.
Here’s what we know from the police investigation so far.
Honour or income?
“Radhika used to run a tennis academy, and her father was not happy with it,” Gurugram police spokesperson Sandeep Singh said.
“He (Deepak) had been upset for a while as he was being taunted by locals over his daughter’s income. He was troubled by their remarks – they would keep saying the house is running on her money, and he is too dependent on that. He had asked her (Radhika) several times earlier to stop working at the academy, but she refused. He could not take it anymore,” the Station House Officer Inspector Vinod Kumar told The Indian Express.
Reports also suggest that Deepak objected to a music video featuring Radhika alongside an independent artist, “INAAM”. They had repeatedly gotten into an argument over it, and he had asked her to delete it from her social media accounts.
On the unfortunate morning, however, he used his licensed .32 bore revolver and shot his daughter from behind. She was reportedly in the kitchen at the time when three out of the five bullets struck her.
