Why Small Business Owners Need to Know Their Numbers

As the economy in Central Indiana becomes more reliant on small businesses, entrepreneurs must have the right tools and resources to grow.

Zenai Savage, the chief finance and administrative officer for the Indy Chamber, says that when business owners gain knowledge of numbers, it helps them grow their businesses and tell stories. “Behind every data point is a person, a business, or a vision to move the economy forward.”

Savage says things like sustainability, growth, and scaling can often hit a wall in small businesses, and that’s when entrepreneurs need to seek help to stay afloat. She says the Indy Chamber uses its own CDFI (Community Development Financial Institution) to help business owners access capital, resources, and one-on-one coaching from professionals.

As more small business owners enter the local economy, Savage encourages them to use the Indy Chamber and its CDFI to grow.
