Led by rookie guard Paige Bueckers, Dallas made a strong bid for its second win of the season, but came up short in the fourth quarter. Bueckers finished with arguably her best game at the WNBA level, tallying 15 points, five rebounds, eight assists, three blocks and three steals while converting on six of her 11 field goal attempts.

While it came in a loss, this line made history for Bueckers. The 2025 No. 1 overall pick joined an exclusive list of WNBA players to record at least 15 points, five rebounds, eight assists, three blocks and three steals in a single game.
The others are Caitlin Clark, Candace Parker and Angel McCoughtry (h/t Basketball Reference’s StatHead).
It has been and up-and-down start to Buecker’s WNBA career. The 6-foot-0 guard entered Thursday averaging 14.6 points, 6.4 assists and 4.4 rebounds. Raising those averages across the board in the loss to Chicago, Buecker’s had a strong all-around showing.

Sky clip Wings 94-83 despite Angel Reese’s ongoing struggle to make shots
Angel Reese scored 14 points in the Sky’s 94-83 victory against the Wings. Reese’s 32-game streak with double-digit rebounds is a thing of the past. Reese shot under 50% from the field in each of her first nine games this season. She came into the second of back-to-back games shooting 31-3% on twos and 31.3% overall.“It’s been hard to get her some good, clean looks inside,” coach Tyler Marsh said. “I think some of it’s just the shot’s not falling. But it’s nothing that we’re too concerned about. We want her to keep being aggressive down there and taking advantage of opportunities to do so.“Clearly, though, it’s frustrating for her at times,’ Marsh said of his star guard.
Far more important is the second-year Sky star’s ability to make shots, mainly those from under the basket. It’s an understatement to say that hasn’t come with any consistency at all since she got to the league, and the struggles have been even more real through six games than they were during her rookie season.
In the Sky’s 94-83 victory Saturday against the Paige Bueckers-less Wings, Reese pitched in 14 points — her last of four baskets coming in dramatic fashion when she posted up DiJonai Carrington to make it a 10-point game with 3:03 to go and let out a huge yell.
But she had to withstand an absolutely brutal shooting performance in the early going. She airballed a 15-footer from the baseline on her first shot. Three minutes in, she picked Myisha Hines-Allen’s pocket, raced up the court on a two-on-one break, gave it up to Courtney Vandersloot, got it back and blew a point-blank layup. By halftime, she was 1-for-9 from the field with five of her shots blocked.
She also went a second consecutive game without double-digit rebounds, grabbing nine of them, with four coming at the offensive end. Nothing wrong with nine, you know, from a player who rolls out of bed cleaning the glass.
“I mean, at this point, [rebounding] is how I’m getting my points,” Reese said before the game. “So I’ve got to do whatever helps the team, and obviously, it seems, that’s my role right now. So I’m just doing whatever it takes.”
Asked about her shooting woes, she just turned her head from one inquirer and awaited a different question from somebody else.
“It’s been hard to get her some good, clean looks inside,” coach Tyler Marsh said before the game. “I think some of it’s just the shot’s not falling. But it’s nothing that we’re too concerned about. We want her to keep being aggressive down there and taking advantage of opportunities to do so.”
Last season, Reese shot under 50% from the field in each of her first nine games and ended at 39.1% for the season — and barely better than that (39.9%) on two-point shots. She came into the second of back-to-back games against the Wings shooting 31.3% on twos and 31.3% overall — having made one three-pointer in three tries — and didn’t move the needle on a 4-for-13 night.
She still competed hard — as always — and others on the Sky (2-4) picked her up in a big way. Guard Ariel Atkins dazzled in the fourth quarter, scoring 12 of her 26 points, as she continues to drop hints that she might be the team’s best player. Vandersloot (15 points, seven assists, seven rebounds) was stellar, Kia Nurse (11 points) made a couple of important threes and Rebecca Allen (plus-19) and Elizabeth Williams (plus-11) more than held things down off the bench as the Sky beat the Wings (1-6) for the 10th time in their last 11 meetings.
But Reese’s rough go at putting the ball in the hole is an ongoing issue. There are moments like the one after she missed her first shot of the third quarter from in close. After a whistle, she pounded the ball to the court, turned and started the other way, then thought better of it, retrieved the ball and shot a practice layup. Let the record show that she made it.
Clearly, though, it’s frustrating for her at times.
“It’s just a matter of knocking them down,” Marsh said. “She will.”
