The Department of State is advising all Americans planning to travel abroad to use extra caution. In an advisory posted to the State Department website Sunday night, the agency cited ongoing tensions between Israel and Iran as the cause for the blanket warning.

“The conflict between Israel and Iran has resulted in disruptions to travel and periodic closure of airspace across the Middle East. There is the potential for demonstrations against U.S. citizens and interests abroad. The Department of State advises U.S. citizens worldwide to exercise increased caution,” reads a portion of the post.

The advisory was issued a day after President Donald Trump authorized strikes in Iran targeting alleged nuclear weapon facilities. Government leaders domestically and internationally have condemned the strikes.

In response, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said His nation will “reserve all options” for how it will defend itself following the strikes.

Last week, the State Department issued a Level 4 “Do not Travel” advisory for Iraq and ordered the departure of non-emergency U.S. government personnel from Iraq as tensions in the region rose.

In light of the worldwide travel advisory, the State Department recommends visiting its website for preparing for international travel.
