Xbox president Sarah Bond has just announced a multi-year deal with AMD to power multiple gaming devices, including the successor of the Xbox Series X. Here’s her complete statement from the brief video announcement:

It seems like Microsoft wanted to confirm in an official capacity what insiders had already mentioned, such as the fact that the next-generation Xbox will still be compatible with previous-generation games through backward compatibility. Interestingly, Sarah Bond did not reiterate her previous remark about the next generation Xbox console delivering the ‘largest technical leap ever’ for consoles, though it’s hard to say whether that means fans should lower their performance expectations.

Whatever the case, Microsoft has bypassed the mid-generation refresh (unlike Sony with its PlayStation 5 Pro) and seems ready to get a headstart on the next generation. According to the latest rumors, the Series X successor might launch in a couple of years.
